Jill Soderstrom, simulation lead

Through her work as simulation lead, Jill Soderstrom provides opportunities to empower staff and physicians to provide exemplary care and grow in their own development as people and providers. She promotes diversity in healthcare through her actions and dialogue when planning the scenarios and during simulations. She recognizes every department, team and individual represents what they know best, and she uses the simulation to respect those differences and perspectives to engage and foster conversations amongst participants to learn from each other and grow.

Jill follows every simulation experience with an active debrief. In the debrief, participants talk through their experience, often with varying perspectives, about how the response should change if the scenario presented itself in real time. Jill listens intently, acknowledges the varying perspectives, and guides the team to reach consensus on planned actions moving forward. After one simulation, a site had that scenario happen, and staff said, “it was just like the sim case, we knew exactly what to do and where things were on the unit.”

In the last year, Jill has led over 145 booked simulations at over 14 sites with more than 1, 700 participants including staff, physicians and other partners.

Her communication skills set Jill apart by allowing her to facilitate respectful dialogue between healthcare professionals and diverse stakeholders. She knows bringing people together fosters a positive culture, provides a sense of belonging among team members and provides opportunities to improve patient outcomes.
