The medical device reprocessing (MDRD) technicians lead the way in practicing and teaching the importance of infection prevention. This team works behind the scenes playing a critical role for Bonnyville Health Centre’s surgery and scope programs. They follow strict infection prevention control steps and pay close attention to details ensuring all equipment sterilization methods are done correctly. The technicians keep patients as their top priority through consistent open communication with the operating room, day surgery and endoscopy staff while providing sterilized equipment for emergencies and scheduled cases.

They lead by example and exhibit safe work practices. MDRD technicians stay on top of identifying when it is appropriate to dispose of damaged or defective devices, conducting workplace inspections, following safety codes and doing hazard assessments. They continuously increase their knowledge to better their practice. The technicians support and trust each other to get their work done.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, employee wellbeing has suffered. The MDRD technicians are the site’s loudest cheerleaders in promoting staff engagement and wellness. They participate, promote or volunteer in the activities and can be heard encouraging others throughout the building to participate. They demonstrate work is important, but so are other things. Finding balance is the best way to ensure all aspects of life are taken care of which promotes overall wellness.
