Kidist Hailemariam, health care aide

Kidist is a model of integrity at St. Teresa Place, inspiring those around her to courageously act within their own limitations and expectations. She is a trustworthy, caring professional who is often looked to for detailed practical information by the attending physician who recognizes her commitment to resident care. She knows every skin cut, nail colour, hair length, breathing pattern, movement or eating pattern, and every mannerism of the residents on her floor.

Kidist understands the discipline of courage and learning. She is willing to participate in educational programs to provide better options for how to do things or how to better serve a challenging resident on the neighborhood. During the COVID-19 outbreak at Villa Marie in October and November of 2020, Kidist courageously went there and provided help to the site.

Kidist helps create a culture of safety by guiding resident care, often acting as a coach and mentor to new nurses and health care aides who work in her neighbourhood. She does this through modesty, a high level of knowledge and a sense of responsibility. Her critical thinking skills and her ability to easily relate with the most difficult residents and care for them encourages those around her to practice safety and to go the extra mile to make a difference in the lives of our residents.
